“That was unfortunate. That was essentially an exchange with Cowboys supporters out in front of us,” Jones explained during a Tuesday interview. “There was a large group of Cowboys fans—not Jets fans, our fans. The whole venue was filled with excitement for the Cowboys.”
He further clarified that the gesture was entirely accidental, occurring amid the excitement following the team’s last score. “I just showed the wrong digit,” he remarked. “The action was accidentally done. This is sincere. Should you call it accidental, you can. But it got corrected rapidly.”

This is not the initial instance an NFL owner has been penalized for misconduct. Previous examples include:
- Panthers proprietor Tepper was fined $300,000 for throwing a drink at spectators in early 2024.
