'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith renews battle with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he recalls the dramatic dying seconds of his team's stunning fightback victory against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. The game ended with Galbraith briefly donning a supporter's spectacles following the post-goal scrum.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith cracked the upright with a long-range effort from 25 yards, and the defender promptly converted the loose ball before charging toward the East Stand to celebrate, with supporters mobbing the players.

Stunning Reversal

This capped an unbelievable recovery given the team had found themselves down 2-0 during the latter period. During the euphoria, there was some minor mishaps. He shared, "There was a fan trying to get our attention and we were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're humans, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The victory booked a fourth-round fixture at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith pushed hard at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with the London side in February. The athletic midfielder had arguably the best view when his former team took the lead in stunning style, with a teammate's long-range effort from about long distance going in via the bar and the opposition keeper. It feels criminal that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've awarded it to him for taking the effort on from that distance," commented Galbraith, who started in midfield before switching to right defensive wing after Orient changed shape. That meant getting to grips with Jack Grealish, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the player was among the City players who praised the way his former team approached the match.

Guardiola's System

"Fitness-wise they are outstanding but even the fundamentals and routine actions, they can just perform consistently," the midfielder notes. "It seems as if they complete every delivery and they are adept at control and take the sting out of a game. You can feel you're all right and then without warning they will just thread a ball between defenders without you even noticing. You have to be focused every second of the game. It demands a strong mentality and focus just to keep pace."

New Chapter

Swansea sought to acquire Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to bring him in in the summer in a significant move. He made a name as a crowd pleaser across a couple of years at Orient and has swiftly done the same in his new home. At the London club he joined forces once more with Richie Wellens, who four years ago gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in senior football on loan at Doncaster from Old Trafford. Then came a temporary move at League Two Salford, before he permanently left his boyhood club.

Development Path

"I was perhaps a somewhat inexperienced going into men's football. I think a lot of players would say under-23s football is completely distinct. Sometimes it feels like play is circulated without real physicality. You see few tackles or duels. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adapt rapidly."

National Team Success

He has demonstrated that development for both domestically and internationally, excelling for Northern Ireland, who remain in contention for the global tournament next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has started the recent fixtures, including home and away encounters against the German national team. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's previous international manager, gave him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he controls possession and his knack for a killer pass.

Early Days

This represents an incredible journey for the youngster from the Queens Park estate in Glengormley, just outside the capital, who used to see his dad, the elder Galbraith, also a midfielder, play for a local club.

Old Trafford Memory

Galbraith's only game for Manchester United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the host city, where they competed on an artificial pitch and the venue ceiling was shut owing to the weather of freezing cold. "It was a long trip and it was freezing," he says, chuckling. "The days leading up, several youth players and I worked out jointly, so that aided our adjustment. Just to join the main group and earn some playing time at the end was amazing."

Departing Old Trafford

What was the challenge was it to leave United, the club he joined from Linfield aged 16? "This turned out relatively straightforward, because I reached the point where I realized I wasn't going to make it at first-team level. I'm very appreciative for the time I spent there but it reached a stage where I believed I had to take a different path, move to a lower level and play professional soccer. Now I'm gradually progressing again."

Welsh Adaptation

It is the early part of the afternoon at the club's training ground but Galbraith has an appointment at the early evening: a road rules assessment, another progress toward getting on the road. Until recently to Sketty, the 24-year-old was a constant rider in Swansea's nicknamed fun bus, a team vehicle driven by club employees, the drivers, which ferries players to and from training and matches.

"I travel with the Portuguese player, the Brazilian, Malick Yalcouyé – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's pleasant to spend time with the teammates but I'm hoping to be the following person out of the minibus and behind the wheel. The Portuguese player enjoys practical jokes; he's frequently playing tricks."

Public Engagement

During his time at Leyton Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside followers on the Tube after starting his journey at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
