Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then located many other marked cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police report early analysis indicate the substance was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; officials are presently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for information.
A high-ranking official said the incident made him stunned and had to be resolved quickly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine people by a assailant targeting people of migrant background in February 2020.
